What is Affiliate Marketing? (In a Nutshell)
Affiliate marketing is when you get paid to promote other companies’ products or services.
As an affiliate marketer, your job is to drive traffic to these offers. You get paid a commission anytime someone you refer to an offer makes a purchase (or in some instances performs a specific action).
It’s really that simple.
When you become an affiliate for a merchant or creator, they will provide you with a unique affiliate link or the means to generate your own affiliate link(s).
If someone makes a purchase after clicking on your affiliate link, you get credit for the sale and will receive a commission.
How much you get paid for the sale depends on the agreement you have in place with the merchant.
Most affiliate programs run on a revenue share model. This means you get a set percentage of any sale (commission) generated from your link.
I’ve seen commissions as low as 1% and as high as 100%.
You may also find merchants that pay a fixed dollar amount for each sale generated. This is called CPA (cost per action).

Why I Love Affiliate Marketing on Twitter (Overview)
Most people think Twitter is just a place for people to rant about politics, sports, and pop culture.
While this may be partially true, there is also a lot of affiliate money to be made on Twitter.
💖 Some of the reasons I love Twitter as a platform for affiliate marketing:
- Easy to grow an account
- Tweets have an incredible amount of instant reach
- Can automate with inexpensive tools
- Less competition than on other social platforms (IG/YouTube/TikTok)
One of the biggest misnomers surrounding Twitter is that you have to have a lot of followers to start making money.
This simply isn’t true. You can make money from affiliate marketing with no followers.
In fact, I made an affiliate sale on my very 1st sales tweet!
I had less than 300 followers at the time, but I have students who have made affiliate sales with 10 followers.
I’ve been focusing on affiliate marketing as a full-time gig for a couple of years now and I had never seen results happen that quickly.
But the reality is that not everyone is ready to buy something immediately after clicking your affiliate link (although some will).
📈 Twitter traffic is made up of people in different stages of the buying process:
- Awareness
- Interest
- Consideration
- Purchase
When you have traffic visiting your affiliate offer, you don’t want to lose the ability to sell to them just because they are in the early stages of the buying journey. (Awareness/Interest)
By building simple funnels that capture email addresses, you have the opportunity to follow up and warm up potential buyers via email.
By setting up email campaigns and automation, you can bring potential customers back to your affiliate offer armed with more information. They are now further along in their buyer journey. (Consideration/Purchase)
These returning visitors will start pulling the trigger on your affiliate offers.
This leads us to my Twitter affiliate marketing strategy…
My Affiliate Marketing Strategy to Make Money on Twitter
In this section, I’m going to show you the most lucrative strategy I’ve found for promoting affiliate products on Twitter.
PRO TIP
If you want to consistently make $500 or more every week of the year as an affiliate marketer on Twitter, you are mostly in the business of collecting people’s email addresses.
My main goal is to utilize Twitter traffic to feed the top of my funnels, collect email addresses, and sell to my list forever…or until they unsubscribe.
Most new affiliate marketers on Twitter just link directly to the offers instead of doing the email collection step because they want to start making money as soon as possible.
There’s a time and place for direct linking to offers (I do it all the time), but if you want to make a consistent affiliate income while exerting the least amount of effort long-term, follow the steps below and take notes.
1. Choose a Niche
If you brand your Twitter account around a specific niche, it will be easier to create content, gain followers, and establish yourself as an influencer.
CHOOSING A PROFITABLE NICHE
My advice is to start out by selecting a broad niche from this list below unless you are a true expert in a specific hobby niche:
- Health (Exercise, Weight Loss, Wellness)
- Wealth (Make Money Online, Investing, Business)
- Relationships (Marriage, Dating, Sex)
But don’t stop there! Now narrow one of the above niches down even further.
For example, my niche is starting online businesses, which is a subset of the wealth niche.
I don’t promote products about how to get rich as a crypto trader or how to invest in gold IRAs because I’ve built an account around followers who are mostly interested in my online business content.
If your niche is too broad on Twitter, you won’t connect with anyone.
2. Turn your Twitter Profile into a Landing Page
Your account bio is the most important real estate when it comes to affiliate marketing on Twitter.
✔ You should have 3 goals in mind when crafting your Twitter bio:
- Inform potential followers of what type of content they should expect
- Prove expertise/results
- Present a clear call to action (CTA)
In my bio, I try to achieve all 3 goals:
- I inform potential followers that I’m talking about affiliate marketing and making money online
- My banner is a collage of affiliate and ad payouts to show real results
- There is a CTA link that offers people a freebie (IMPORTANT!)
Some people like to have a CTA in their profile that directly links to their primary affiliate offer.
This method can get sales through sheer volume, but I would rather take the extra time to set up a basic funnel and collect emails that I can continue to sell to.
The most effective way to get someone to click on the link in your bio is to offer them something for free on the other side if they take action.
This leads us to the next step…
3. Create a Lead Magnet (Ethical Bribe)
In order to get people to willingly give you their email addresses, you will need something to bribe them with.
This bribe is called a lead magnet.
Ebooks, checklists, courses, and case studies are perfect bribes.
The only tools you need to create a lead magnet are Canva and/or Google Docs (both are FREE).
PRO TIP
The goal of any good lead magnet is to show the reader what they should do. The affiliate offer you are promoting should teach the person how to do it.
Don’t give away too much premium information for free in your lead magnets, or you may end up inadvertently pushing readers not to buy your affiliate offer.
Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?
4. Build a Squeeze Page (Collect Emails)
The next step is to build a squeeze page that incentivizes your audience to exchange their email address for your lead magnet.
There are plenty of landing page builders available, but I use Systeme.io to manage my affiliate squeeze page (as well as build complete funnels and send email automation).
If you want to find out more about this awesome marketing platform, I’ve written an in-depth review of Systeme.io for new users.
It’s free to get started and paid plans start at only $27 per month if you graduate to needing more advanced features and higher account limits.
Remember, the goal of any squeeze page is to keep it simple and entice the visitor to give you their email in exchange for the lead magnet.
5. Build a Thank You Page (With a Twist)
Once someone enters their email in exchange for the lead magnet, you should forward them to the thank you page.
A typical thank you page will just inform the user to check their email for the free gift you promised them or even worse give them a link to download their gift immediately.
But you don’t want typical results….so why would you use a typical marketing tactic?
Instead, you want to use as little page real estate as possible to remind them to check their email to get the lead magnet and presell them on the affiliate offer (or your own offer) that can help them solve their problem.
If you aren’t camera shy, you can dramatically increase your CTR (clickthrough rate) by recording a short video (I use my iPhone) that sells subscribers on why they need to purchase the offer just around the corner on the next page.
But if you aren’t the type who likes to speak on camera, some well-written sales copy works fine as well.
The next step is to send subscribers into a follow-up email automation sequence.
6. Setup Email Autoresponder (5-Day Sequence)
Now it’s time to set up an email autoresponder sequence using your email marketing platform of choice.
Systeme.io has a built-in email autoresponder and it is free to start using it, but whatever email autoresponder you want to use will suffice.
PRO TIP
When someone opts in to receive my lead magnet I send an immediate thank you email to deliver their free gift, followed by a series of 5 daily emails promoting my affiliate offer.
This post isn’t an in-depth email marketing guide, so I’m not going to teach you how to write affiliate sales emails that convert; however, I can point you in the right direction.
If you really want to learn how to write affiliate email sequences, the best source I’ve found is the Email Growth Playbook. Grab a copy immediately and use it as a reference anytime you need inspiration for writing emails to send to your list.
7. Send Weekly/Bi-weekly Emails to your List
Now that you have started building an email list by offering lead magnets, it’s time to make consistent money from those subscribers.
There are a million and one strategies for how to build and grow a profitable email list, but at the very least make sure to send an email out to your list at least once per week offering them something to buy.
8. Link to Squeeze Page in Tweets
Now that your affiliate sales funnel and email autoresponder are up and running, you can also link to the squeeze page through tweets.
When directly linking to offers, keep the following in mind: Twitter doesn’t promote tweets that encourage its users to leave the platform.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a link to an affiliate offer, squeeze page, blog post, or Youtube channel. Twitter will squash the visibility of a tweet with a link.
However, there is a sneaky way around this that savvy Twitter affiliate marketers use to their advantage.
TRY THIS
Once your tweet starts getting engagement create a reply to it with a CTA to your squeeze page.
Your original tweet and your CTA will have full visibility and won’t be penalized by the Twitter algorithm!
9. Skip the Funnel/Direct Linking
Another active way to make affiliate sales on Twitter is to forego sending clicks to a squeeze altogether and just send them directly to the offer instead.
By removing the extra barrier of a landing page you are warming up the prospect with your sales tweet, and letting the copy of the affiliate offer close the deal for you.
PRO TIP
Some ways that you can warm up the prospect with your sales tweet are:
- Describe your own results with the product
- Share positive testimonials
- Offer discount codes/links
- Offer bonuses for buying from your link
- Use threads to simulate a “long copy” sales page
Remember to adhere to the same guidelines as linking to your squeeze page! Don’t place the CTA link in the original tweet. Wait for some engagement and reply with the CTA.
10. Get Traffic (Automate your Twitter Account)
The real key to growing your Twitter following is a combination of understanding how to craft Tweets that get interaction, knowing how to properly monetize your following, and automating the entire process.
I use the Tweet Hunter platform to automate the posting of my Twitter account, and most of the other successful Twitter accounts I follow do as well.
It doesn’t matter which Twitter automation software you use; just make sure you get in the habit of tweeting multiple times EVERY DAY. The Twitter algorithm rewards consistency.
PRO TIP
Here are some of my best tips for growing a profitable Twitter account:
- Turn on alerts for the top accounts in your niche and comment on their Tweets as quickly as possible
- Join engagement groups in your niche
- Send at least 5 personalized DMs per day and try to network with others in your niche

How to Pick an Affiliate Offer to Promote on Twitter
When first starting out, you should only promote one niche affiliate offer with a proven track record for converting.
The reason for this is that you don’t want to give the impression of an account that will shill any affiliate offer just to make a quick buck.
Stick to one primary offer and once you have established your authority and built a larger following, you can start promoting additional affiliate offers to your audience and monitor how they convert.
What Types of Offers to Promote on Twitter?
🎯 There are 3 types of affiliate offers that I promote on Twitter:
- Ebooks/Courses
- SAAS tools/Software
- Communities/Masterminds
Once you grow the authority and size of your Twitter account, start promoting all 3 types of offers to your audience simultaneously and watch your income skyrocket!
Where to Find Affiliate Offers to Promote on Twitter?
If you are new to affiliate marketing on Twitter, there are a few places I recommend searching for offers to promote.
1. Gumroad
If your traffic primarily comes from Twitter, Gumroad is hands down the best converting affiliate marketplace.
In order to start affiliating for Gumroad products the first thing you have to do is create a free account.
After that, you need to find products that you want to promote.
👍 Some of the benefits of promoting Gumroad products are:
- Weekly payouts
- Direct deposit
- 30-day cookie
- Can promote the creator’s entire catalog
👎 One thing I would like to see them improve upon is:
- No traffic tracking dashboard
Most creators will want you to purchase their product before you promote it (I do this with my products).
Finally, there are some creators that don’t care if you purchase their product and will approve you if you connect with them via DM on Twitter.
I personally like to try out the products that I am promoting first. The last thing you want to do is damage your reputation by promoting a book or course that is awful.
2. Clickbank
The easiest way to find affiliate offers to promote when you are just starting is to sign up for ClickBank.
Anyone can promote most of the offers in the marketplace, so it’s perfect for brand-new affiliates that don’t yet have a proven record of success.
👍 Some of the benefits of promoting Clickbank products are:
- Great tracking dashboard
- Searchable marketplace
- Professional landing pages and funnels
- 60-day cookie
- Upsells into recurring revenue
👎 Some things I don’t like about Clickbank:
- Offers can sometimes look and feel a bit sleazy
On Clickbank, you can find products related to almost any niche, and some of them convert well with little effort on your end.
Because the landing pages and sales funnels are so well-designed, all you have to do is send traffic and leave the heavy lifting to the professionals.

3. MunchEye
Muncheye is a website that curates all of the best upcoming product launches in the Make Money Online (MMO) niche.
These offers are perfect to promote on Twitter and you can make some really good money once you have a sizable email list to send to.
The biggest launches often have lucrative contests and offer big prize money for top affiliates!
Make sure you keep an eye out for the latest launches on Muncheye if you have a following of people who are interested in making money online.
4. Other Profitable Affiliate Offers
Twitter is simply a traffic source, so if your traffic is targeted enough, any affiliate offer has the potential to be a success.
RECOMMENDED AFFILIATE NETWORKS
These are some other affiliate networks/marketplaces that have offers perfect for Twitter traffic:
- Olavivo – High Converting Offers
- Warrior Plus – Digital Products/Software
- MaxBounty – CPA Offers in Most Niches
- Digistore24 – Courses/Digital Products
My best tip for finding profitable affiliate offers is to see what the top dogs in your niche are promoting. If they are promoting an offer extra hard it means they are making good money doing so.
Final Thoughts…
Affiliate marketing on Twitter can be a lucrative way to earn passive income. By building a targeted and engaged following, it is possible to make over $500 per week.
However, it’s important to remember that success in affiliate marketing requires hard work, dedication, and a willingness to continually learn and adapt.
By following the strategies outlined in this blog post and staying up-to-date with industry trends, you can set yourself up for success as an affiliate marketer on Twitter.
